What's new in Colour...

Greys and silver can be a fabulous way to create a relaxed and calming space. You could choose to paint just one wall in grey and leave the rest just off white if you rather not paint all the room. Check out our beautiful palette of greys in the Colortrend Interior Collection brochure. From the lightest shades like like Winters Breath and Mistletoe Kiss to rich shades such as Sleeping Beauty there really is something for all tastes, whether you prefer warm or cool. Adding elements like textural bedding and natural wool throws along with a deep pile patterned rug help to keep things interesting in your grey room and add some depth.

Some time ago there was interesting banter online about whether silvers and greys were actually colours and opinions were flying around like bees on honey! I don’t think there was a clear winner as experts from all over chimed in with their views on the subject. There was the opinion that silver was a finish not a colour and from left field was thrown the idea that silver was a neutral like grey and therefore not considered a colour. So, are silver and grey actually colours?

A neutral is defined as “being without colour” and you would imagine that grey falls into the neutral category. However, most greys in the paint industry are made with lamp black, a very blue cast black. Blue can also be added to create “cool” greys. I have found the most neutral greys are found at the junction of red violet and blue violet, being a neutral between a warm and cool colour family.

Silver, in my opinion, is a grey with a metallic finish. If there is such a thing as warm silver and cool silver, or even a green, blue or whatever silver then how can silver not be a colour? Stainless steel can be anything from a cool hue to a warm hue depending on the manufacturer, but since they are all silver they are considered neutrals, which is why they fit so well into all environments.
